Certificate validity: 3 years

How often does WHMIS training need to be renewed?
WHMIS training should be renewed every 3 years. WorkSafeBC and most employers require workers to complete WHMIS refresher training every 3 years, or sooner when new hazardous products are introduced or procedures change.
Is WHMIS training mandatory in BC?
Yes. WHMIS training is mandatory for all workers who work with or near controlled (hazardous) products in any Canadian province, including BC, under the Hazardous Products Act.
What is the difference between WHMIS 1988 and WHMIS 2015?
WHMIS 2015 aligned Canada with the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) of Classification and Labelling. It introduced new pictograms, updated hazard categories, and the 16-section SDS format replacing the old MSDS.
